More Known Art
In July of 2010, I received an exciting email from Joy Dennison: I am sending you 4 pictures by Vern Parker. I inherited them from my step father. He died in 2002. He purchased them from Mr. Parker in 1972. I have 7 paintings by Mr. Parker. I will be going to the Antiques Roadshow on Saturday the 24th and I am taking 2 of the paintings. No, I am not selling them! They are all hanging in my home and I could not depart with them. They bring me such great pleasure. If you would like more info on the paintings, just e-mail me. Thank you, Joy Dennison. Then a second email: You have my permission to put all the paintings on your website. I have 2 postcards and personal pictures of my stepfather, C.C. Clark, and Mr. Parker in front of the Hitching Post in August, 1972. I will send them later. I am just so happy to have found info on Mr. Parker, and to know that my stepfather knew and admired such a great artist. My stepfather has passed now and my mother is in her late 80s and can not remember too good. Thank you, Joy The following is the third email with more information and the photos: Here are the postcards and personal pictures of Mr Parker. The measurements on the paintings are: "The Land of Navajo, 16 x 20; "Indian Man on Appoloosa," 21 1/2 x 27 1/2; "The Indian Woman on Apploosa," 14 1/2 x 18 1/2; "Indian Woman with Sheep" 19 x20 1/2, "Indian with Child," 19 x 20 1/2; "Trading Post", 22 1/2 x 18; "Steers" 28 x 20. The man with Mr. Parker is my stepfather, C.C. Clark. My mother took the pictures. She said they were there in Silverton, CO twice. She didn't go in the Hitching Post, but C.C. did. I will be waiting to see these on your web site. If you need any more info feel free to e-mail me at any time. I will let you know what I find out at the roadshow on Saturday. Joy |

The paintings were appraised at $3,000 to $4,000 a piece. The lady also said a large painting of Mr. Parker titled Midnight sold at auction for $5,000. I have a treasure hanging on my wall in the living room, They are very special to me. I do have one painting that was not signed. It is the Indian woman with the sheep at her. In July, 2010, I received this email from Don Nottingham of Scottsdale, AZ.:
I was just down @ my mother's place who recently passed away. I remember growing up and seeing this in my grandmother's home. My grandfather bought this and was hung on the wall my entire life (50 years old) in Safford Arizona. It is a Vern Parker signed. On the back it has 'Colorado, Vern Parker, Benson. Measures a53" x 31" (in frame.)
This is an exquisite work of art. The pastels and quiet subject are unusual for Vern Parker, who usually painted in thick, dark and bright contrasts. It is truly elegant and a collector's piece.
